The Other Railway Diesels appeared in two Railway Series books: Stepney the Bluebell Engine and Enterprising Engines.
The Railway Series[]
1963[]
Three Diesels were looking begrudgingly at Stepney in the fourth illustration of Bluebells of England, while he was stopped at a large terminus station on his journey to Sodor.
1968[]
With steam abolished across British Railways, another three Diesels were roaming past a Signal box to find an engine named Oliver who ran away from them. The signalman agreed to put Oliver in a siding with his crew looking at them from safe cover. They blocked the cutting with waste to stop the Diesels seeing Oliver, along with Isabel & Toad, and claim them.
Basis[]
- The diesels seen in Stepney the Bluebell Engine are based on a BR Class 31, a BR Class 52 and a BR Class 40.
- The diesels seen in Enterprising Engines are based on a BR Class 08 and a BR Class 28. There is another diesel in the background, but his/her class is unknown.
