Bertie

Bertie is a red bus who works near Thomas' Branch Line. It is most likely he still does, though not on a constant basis like he did as a younger bus when he and Thomas had their great race.

Bio In The Railway Series[]

Tank Engine Thomas Again[]

After Thomas wound up stuck in a snowdrift, Bertie came to rescue Thomas' passengers. He later met Thomas properly and raced him after claiming he was the faster of the two, but lost after having to stop at a traffic light. Though he lost, he still found the whole affair fun and saw the most in Thomas. Thomas in turn appreciated having someone to turn to in dealing with his passengers.

Edward The Blue Engine[]

Bertie tried to catch up with Edward while doing a favour for Thomas's passengers in his fireman's absence. After missing Edward two stations in a row, Bertie finally - just - caught him up and he apologised exhausted to Edward. The passengers duly sung his praises.

More About Thomas The Tank Engine[]

Bertie teased Thomas about being slow, but had to eat his words after breaking down, and Thomas had to rescue his passengers in a twist in both their favours.

Thomas and Victoria[]

Bertie was mentioned as being unable to help Toby and Henrietta with carrying the quarry workers.

Thomas and his Friends[]

Bertie was mentioned to have helped pick up visitors who wanted to see the bust of the Thin Clergyman unveiled after the partial collapse of Henry's Tunnel.

Persona[]

Bertie is friendly and ready to help anyone in need, but he can be impulsive and can't resist teasing Thomas about being slow.

Livery[]

Bertie is painted in the common red livery of buses in the United Kingdom, mostly famously used by London Transport. His license number, "CRD54", refers to the fact his license plate was first seen in Edward the Blue Engine, published in 1954 and illustrated by C. Reginald Dalby.
