British Railways was first created on the first of January 1948 by the British Prime Minister, Clement Attlee. The railway used to be separated into four railways including the London, Midland and Scottish Railway, London North Eastern Railway, Southern Railway and the Great Western Railway back in 1923 all the way to the beginning of 1948. The company served from 1948 to 1995 for forty-seven years until privatisation came and divided the railway into different railways. The NWR was part of British Railways until Sir Stephen Topham Hatt III named it the North Western Railway.

The Railway Series

Steam locomotives were in power by British Railways until they decided that the Fat Controller should have them because engine shortages were critical in 1950 since the NWR and BR were striking over pay disputes. The locomotives were transferred or appeared to the Island of Sodor on loan. Many of these engines were first transferred to Sodor in the 1950s and 60s. Diesel locomotives on Sodor were used by BR from 1958 which they either stay on Sodor or get sacked back to British Railways forever for their unruly ideas or tricks to take control of Sodor's railways one by one.
